BGS U13A vs St Bede's College.

There was a good vibe amongst the group before the warm-up. The warm-up itself went really well, and the whole group couldn’t wait to get the game started.

The opening 10 minutes were played at a very high level. Both teams were displaying real quality on the ball, popping it around using one and two touches before probing to attack. It was a pleasure to witness.

Harley Goldstone was at the heart of all our good work, linking the play with both our central midfield players and our wingers. Harley’s efforts in the opening period probably deserved a goal, but the closest he got saw his shot ping back off the near post and then cleared to safety.

We looked really assured from front to back, and we had good lines of communication between all our units on the pitch. Kobe was alert and made some solid saves when required, and each player utilised the ball with great efficiency.

Jack Baldwin and Lewis Chingwaro were putting on a masterclass, both taking the ball under immense pressure and distributing it with great intelligence. Minutes later, Jack played a defence splitting pass in between the centre back and the full back, and Henry Cooper was on to it in a flash. Composure personified, two touches, and a goal. 1-0.

We were clever with the ball and made great decisions on when to play short or when to play in behind or towards the channels. The second goal came right before half-time. Great build up play, provided Harley and Jack with the opportunity to score, but a good save from the goalkeeper initially, left Seb Tebano with a tap in at the back post. 2-0.

Half time message, enjoy the game, enjoy the challenge. Continue to work hard and be even more clinical.

The boys had been great in the first half, but they stepped it up even more in the second. Again, it was a joy to watch such high-level football.

We dominated the second half, and our physicality as well as our technical ability saw us race into a 4-0 lead. Lewis Chingwaro scoring twice in a matter of minutes and with both goals from corners.

Our fifth and final goal came late on, and fittingly, Harley Goldstone got it. Another flowing move found the feet of Harley, who turned and hit it in one motion catching the keeper by surprise. 5-0.

A really good contest and a special display from our Year 8 boys. Every player had a huge impact and contributed greatly to what I’d say was our best performance of the season.
