BGS U13A vs. Queen Elizabeth Grammar School.
9 wins a row, could it be 10?!
Unfortunately, due to injury, illness, and late no shows, we had to go with what we had, a bare 11. So, not the best preparation, but credit to the boys that we did take to QEGS, as they were full of confidence.
We started well, and created several chances, mainly through Harley Goldstone who came very close on numerous occasions. On another day, he scores three and the game is comfortable. However, missed opportunities gave our opponents confidence, and they soon scored from a quick counterattack.
Around 15 seconds later, it was 1-1. The impressive Jack Titmuss played a delightful through ball to Harry Aston who slotted the ball past the keeper.
Just before the break we took the lead, this time a pinpoint corner from Jack Baldwin found Harry Aston again who volleyed home powerfully. 10 in a row was back on.
Half time: 2-1
A few of the boys were struggling with slight niggles and on any other day we would have made changes. We spoke about managing the game, keeping the ball, and keeping compact in central areas when out of possession.
The first 10 minutes of the second half worked perfectly and to top it off we scored again. Lewis Chingwaro set the ball back Heiman Huang. Heiman then unleashed the fury from 25 yards and smashed the ball into the bottom corner. A real wow moment.
3-1 and comfortable, despite tiring.
QEGS did pull one back late on whilst we were down to 10 players, but the rest of the team managed to see the game out.
Huge well done to all the boys on the day. They all put an incredible shift in and deserved to win that tenth game in a row.
