Manchester Grammar School vs Bury Grammar School U13s. ESFA Cup Round 1.
A difficult day after a superb start to the season.
The game began, and it was very apparent that MGS tactics were shoot on sight, shoot from anywhere, shoot on the U13 goalkeeper in the very large goal. This worked very well for them as the first, second, third and fourth goals all came from long distance efforts.
We, as a collective, coach included, didn’t react soon enough to what was, a very sound and effective game plan.
We tried to play the game in the right way, playing one and two touch football, and at times it worked, but our distances where out, passing range off, support runs offensively and defensively were non-existent.
We lost a player midway through the second half due to a poorly timed tackle. Thankfully, the opposition player was able to bounce straight up and continue.
Well done to MGS. We wish them all the best in the next round and for the rest of the season.
We regroup, learn, and go again.
