On: Wednesday, 06 Nov 2024
Venue: at Home

Bury Grammar School 3-4 RGS Newcastle, ISFA cup round 3.

Unfortunately, our U15A team couldn’t progress to the next round despite their amazing effort to do so.

To quote the late, great, Jimmy Greaves, ‘Football, is a funny old game’.

1 minute in, 0-1 down. 8 minutes in, 0-2 down. Just before half time, 0-3 down. All this despite being the better team, having an incredible number of chances and playing football, the way it should be played. Being brave in possession, being creative, one and two touch passing – A joy to watch.

Over the half time break, we spoke about the many positives of their play. I asked them to remain calm and composed and start taking the chances they were creating at will. A few tweaks to positions and personnel, and the boys were ready and determined to get back in the game.

Very quickly into the second half we scored a great goal from distance. Not long after, we pulled it back to 2-3.

From there we knocked several times at the door, but to no avail. Late on Newcastle broke and scored a fourth. We instantly hit back to make it 3-4, but time was very much against us. We still created two more great chances after our third goal but agonisingly we couldn’t convert!

The boys bow out with their heads held high. A great spectacle, and one hopefully all involved can learn from.
