Bury Grammar Boys U18B vs Hulme Grammar School.
The game started at a frantic pace with both sides showing lots of excitement. BGS enjoyed the majority of the possession and tested the away keeper several times before finally breaking the deadlock after around 12 minutes. Matthew Robinson had had several early sighters, but he wasn’t to be denied for much longer, Matthew evaded several challenges on the edge of the box before placing the ball emphatically across the keeper.
BGS, one goal to the good, settled down and started to play some really good, intelligent football. The boys chose when to slow the game down and then when to play quickly to great effect.
Keeyan Ahmed added a second finishing off a great team move very smartly. Minutes later it was 3-0, this time, Abdul-Zaahir Agunbiade broke down the right wing with electric pace and slotted home.
Just before half-time we added a well deserved fourth goal. Harry Woodhams brought an initial superb save from the Hulme goalkeeper, before tapping home the rebound. HT 4-0.
I made some personnel and positional changes at the interval and asked the boys to remain calm and composed – especially when in possession of the ball.
After the break, the game was quite even for around 15 minutes with both sides creating chances. Hulme broke quickly on several occasions but we delt with the threat relatively well. On one such break, our transition defence looked to have cleared the ball, however bizarrely, the ball ended up in the back of our net via the own goal route.
Undeterred, and literally within 15 seconds of the restart we went and scored our 5th. Keeyan Ahmed once again in the right place at the right time, tapping into an empty net.
From there on in, the game was very one sided, we added two more goals via our advanced full back, Rylan Crombie. From dominant defender to fox in the box, Rylan cooly finished off two well worked corner routines.
Full time 7-1.
