The under 11s girls’ football team took part in a tournament after school on Wednesday against some tough opposition. For some of us, it was the first time we had played for the school football team, however we set out with the attitude of performing to the best of our ability and enjoying the experience.
We played in three fixtures against established girls’ teams, who had played together many times before. The teams were Greenhill Primary School, Gorsefield, and East Ward Primary School. Although we did not win any of our fixtures, we did take some real positives from the tournament.
Our goalkeeper, Talia, made some quite simply outstanding saves to keep the opposition strikers at bay. Also, in one of the fixtures, our successful positional play and quick, forward-thinking passing led to Zara scoring an equalising goal.
The weather was hot, the standard of opposition was very high; however overall, we all really enjoyed the experience of playing together for the first time and we look forward to further opportunities to play for the school football team in the years to come.
